Each of our litters is kept in our home, up until the time they are ready to leave and be with their new families. From the moment they are born they puppies are socialized; we use a program called "Bio Sensor/Super Dog" performance improvement program (see link below).
When they are born their weights are taken and recorded. Every day until they are 4 weeks old we weigh them and record the weights. Their dewclaws are removed and their tails are docked to Braque du Bourbonnais standards. We cut their nails every other day or so, needless to say we are very busy and they are getting all of our attention.
At about 5 - 5 1/2 weeks (weather permitting) we take them outside in a safe environment and they are encouraged to explore their surroundings. We start socializing them with children and other adults, once again under our watchful eyes. They will be introduced to a pointing wing and a tethered pigeon, to increase their desire. This is just a mild introduction to help evaluate each puppy. This is not to be confused with the introductions that you will be doing at a later date. They will be introduced to our other older dogs and weather permitting, we will introduce them to water.
Selection of your puppy - once the puppies start moving around and playing we start watching for their personality differences. Depending on what the families have told us about themselves, what they expect from their new puppy; hunting/family member or just a family member for an active family we will start thinking about where each pup should go.
While we do sell puppies to non-hunting homes we reserve the right to place in the hunting homes the puppies that display the highest drive during our evaluations. We would not feel comfortable placing a puppy in a non-hunting home that displays a high potential and drive that would suit a hunting home better.
Prior to them being shipped we will start having them sleep in a crate, so they will be use to it prior to their trip.
